Uniquely Teochew/Minnan Kinship Terms (3)

Prepare yourself for the upcoming Chinese New Year!

This is the third in a series of posts on Teochew kinship terms, featuring words used to address relatives that are found in Teochew or other Minnan languages but not in Mandarin.

𡚸 bhou2 • wife • 妻子 qīzǐ / 夫人 fūrén

翁 ang1 • husband • 丈夫 zhàngfū / 先生 xiānshēng

Equivalent terms are used in most Southern Min languages, although the pronunciation is variable. Teochew usually writes bhou2 with the character 𡚸 (女+么), Hokkien/Taiwanese with 某 bó͘.
